Formation of researchers and professionals with high skills, able to integrate teams of recognized merit at national, european and world levels, and to work at company, universities and research centers in thefollowing fields:

  • Biomass to energy (production of forest biomass and energetic crops)
  • Waste to energy (anaerobic digestion and fermentation processes - bioethanol)
  • Thermal processes (combustion, pyrolysis and gasification)
  • Solid and liquid biofuels (production and quality)
  • Hydrogen (production routes and use)
  • Classic renewable energies (solar photovoltaic and thermal)
  • Management tools in renewable energy sector (GIS; Project Assessment; Entrepreneurship)
  • Consulting services in energy and bionergy
  • Promotion of the technological, social and cultural progress


Course Structure

General issue: Energy and Bioenergy

Type: PhD course (3rd cycle)

Credits: 180 ECTS

Diplomas: PhD Degree (180 ECTS - 6 semesters) or Advanced Studies Diploma (60 ECTS - 2 semesters)

Duration: 6 schoolar semesters (classes - 2 semesters; thesis - 4 semesters)

Tutorial system


EU and non-EU citizens with a Master Degree (or legal equivalent) or a Graduation in Engineering (Chemistry, Mechanics, Industrial Production, Environment, Electricity, Physics), or Basic Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Physics), or a legal equivalent, with a minimum of 240 ECTS.

Holders of an academic, scientific or professional CV, recognized by the Scientific Commission of the Doctoral Program, as demonstrating ability to undertake the study cycle.
